What to Do If Your KitchenAid Dishwasher Is Leaking

Discovering that your dishwasher is leaking all over the floor of your kitchen can be a rather stressful moment! Luckily, most of the time it is possible to repair your dishwasher without having to replace it entirely. There may be several issues that result in your dishwasher leaking – and we will examine these issues in greater detail.

What is the Source of the Leak?

The first thing you should do is to determine if the source of the leak is located around the front or the back of the dishwasher. The source of the water leak can be difficult to detect, especially if the leak is not particularly big. Still, it is important to keep in mind that if you do not fix the issue now it will only get worse over time – we strongly recommend to find out the source of the problem and fix it early, since the cost of the repair may increase, as the issue is getting worse.

Cracked Door Gasket

The door gasket is a rubber seal that circles around the dishwasher door and helps to isolate the inner tube of your dishwasher and prevents the dishwasher door from leaking water. Over time, the rubber door gasket becomes brittle and cracks, allowing the water to leak through the cracks. At first, the amount of water won’t be significant, but a seriously worn out door gasket will eventually start leaking a significant amount of water. Luckily, the door gasket replacement is not particularly costly, but the procedure itself can be a bit tricky.

Water Pump Problem

Examine the clamp that connects the water hose to the pump and the hose itself. There may be cracks or other signs of wear. In rare cases, the water pump itself can be damaged. Unfortunately, if you find out that the pump is burnt or damaged you will have to replace the part entirely.

Some KitchenAid dishwashers have a water pump model that is used for drain as well as for water supply. A broken drain pump may result in the water overflow, which might cause a leak as well.

Water Inlet Valve Problem

The water inlet valve is connected to the water line and controls the water supply in your dishwasher. A cracked valve will leak water inside your appliance. Examine the supply connection attached to the valve and make sure there is no leak. The valve can be connected to the water pump by copper tubing or a hose.

Damaged Hose or Unscrewed Clamp

Finally, make sure to check all the hoses and clamps in the dishwasher. It could be that one of the clamps unscrewed due to the stress and vibration and the hose end was misplaced. Some KitchenAid models have rubber hose which wear down over time.
